Sinclair podiums at Tenerife

After wrapping up the 3½ month long “East Coast Carnage” tour with the Crusty Demons in June, Honda’s Cameron Sinclair headed off to the small Island of Tenerife in Spain to compete in the 2006 Freestyle Extreme competition.

Sincs travelled through seven different airports and endured 30 hours of flying time, but his travels were certainly worth the effort.

The young Victorian FMX Honda star finished the event on the podium in third position in a field of some of the world’s best riders including top riders from France, England and Spain as well as Andy Jones from the USA.

“Being my first FMX international competition, I was a little nervous, but I was feeling really good on the bike,” he said.

“I qualified for the final which I was happy enough with. In my final run I decided to switch things around a bit and I pulled off my first heel clicker flip to dirt. I also did a can can flip, a nac flip, and finished it off with a seat grab flip.”

“I was absolutely stoked to pull a podium in my first international event, and am definitely looking forward to going back in a few weeks. The crowd get right into it over there and the atmosphere was awesome.”

Sincs is now off to Jakarta for a demo, followed by a week at home in Langwarren, VIC to practice. He will then head back over to Spain for a few more competitions.

“After that, I’ll fly to LA for a demo on Huntingdale Beach and to watch X-games. I’ve also got shows lined up in New Caledonia and a show in the snow at Falls Creek coming up pretty soon.”

On wrapping up the Crusty Demons tour, Sincs noted the uniqueness of the experience.

“The last five shows all attracted huge crowds and were awesome fun to ride. In between the Mackay and Cairns shows, all the riders hired a couple of house boats and cruised up the Great Barrier Reef for a few days which we all really needed. It was sort of sad at the last show in Townsville but it looks like we’ll all be getting together again soon for another Indian tour.”
