Honda Wins at West Wyalong Cup

Local track aces Darren Herrick and 11-year-old Matthew Davies were in sizzling form at the West Wyalong Cup held recently, taking out their respective classes in front of the home crowd.

Honda Wins at West Wyalong Cup

The two current Australian Champions blasted the opposition aboard their Western Motors sponsored Hondas.

Western Motors and Honda in West Wyalong not only support the town's two Australian Champions but also sponsored eight of the events.

Organisers of the annual meeting were thrilled with the quality entries received this year with top class riders from across New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria, including additional Honda riders Stewart Wright, James Wiencke and Tyler Davies.

Herrick soared to his second successive cup victory leaving all other riders in his wake after the third restart of the 4 ½ lap final.

Herrick also gave his usual outstanding performance taking out the hotly contested 450cc final on his Western Motors Honda sponsored bike.

Young gun Matthew Davies was also in superb form, winning the 85cc/150cc 9-u12 division aboard his Honda 150cc. Davies was unbeatable as he demolished his opposition in every heat to be top qualifier for the final where he lead from start to finish.

The young gun also took out the 65cc 9-u13 division in similar style. He was never headed in the four rounds it took to be the outright winner of the event.

Unfortunately Davies could not quite make it a trifecta after mechanical troubles in the 80cc 4-stroke division left him with no points in the first round.

The easy wins have been a “good confidence booster” for Davies leading up to the NSW Junior Track Championships at his home track on July 28 and 29. He will follow up with the Queensland Longtrack Championships at North Brisbane on April 14.

This June in Queensland, the youngster will also defend the three Australian Championships he won last year - the 85cc, 9-u11, 65cc 9-u13 and the 80cc 4 stroke 8-u11 divisions. If he should win, Davies will be the first in his sport to achieve triple championships for two years running.
