Honda’s Cooper Continues Winning Form at Lakes

Honda’s Cooper Continues Winning Form at Lakes

No Fear Honda’s Cody Cooper capitalised on his winning form once more at the penultimate round of the Australian Motocross Championships held at Lake Macquarie, with a 1-2 moto finish.

Cooper took to the hard packed, rocky track with ease after qualifying second, scoring equal points to Jay Marmont on the day but placing second overall.

In moto one, the Honda rider put in a superb effort to overtake Marmont for the lead, whilst team mate Craig Anderson earned a well deserved third place on the podium. With the Championship now wrapped up by Daniel Reardon, Cooper’s Lakes results have placed him into second place just ahead of Hurley with one round to go.

“I did get some arm pump at the half way mark,” Cooper explained. “But the race seemed to go really quickly so I made it through ok.”

“There is some pressure on now since there are only two points between me and Hurley, but I will be working hard to finish runner up in this series.”

Anderson, who was strong in the first moto, unfortunately struggled second time out after getting caught up with Cheyne Boyd in a crash.

This being his second round back from injury, “Ando” was able to finish on equal points with Hurley for the round, and move himself up the ladder three positions.

“I couldn’t get a good clean run so I wasn’t happy with qualifying in sixth,” Ando said. “The first moto, I felt strong though and had a great battle with Cody and Marmont.”

“I got an average start in moto two and got caught up in that crash, but I worked back up through the pack to finish seventh. I was catching Boyd but just got a bit tired. Coolum should be better,” he said.

Although Kade Mosig unfortunately had a forgettable round with a mishap at the start of moto one and a stall in moto two, he managed to hold on to his sixth place overall in the Championships.

“My goal was to finish top five so it is a little disappointing, but I’m still relatively happy with the way this series has gone for me overall,” he said.

Team Manager Pip Harrison said it was probably the best round so far this year for both Ando and Cooper. “Those guys rode extremely well. It was just a bit of bad luck for Ando really with nowhere to pass, but he was in excellent form.”

The final round of the Championships will be held in Coolum, QLD on August 12th.
