Jacqui Jones Crowned Girls on the Gas 2007

The 2007 Honda Girls on the Gas Competitionwas completed in fine style on the weekend at the Bacchus Marshcircuit in Victoria, with NSW representative Jacqui Jones winning the event via a countback after finishing equal on points with WA winner Dimity-Lee Duke.

With Hot, sunny conditions to deal with, all six girls representing their respective states dealt with the conditions extremely well.

While the six girls had to earn their spots earlier in the year by winning their state’s leg of the competition, the ‘Final Showdown’ is truly a showcase of our countries talented Women MX racers.

“I’m really happy with how smooth the competition ran as a whole this year,” said event director Lee Hogan. “The support we had from the girls this year was awesome and the media always gets right behind the Honda Girls on the Gas Competition. For the second year running we have a winner that will represent her sport and associated sponsors extremely well.”

The concept of the Honda Girls on the Gas Competition sees the riders not only competing in the ‘On Bike’ sectors of Technique Judging, Lap Time sector and 5 lap race, but also a couple of ‘Off The Bike’ sectors being Public Speaking and a Fitness Assessment (Shuttle Run Beep Test). Once all 5 categories have been completed on the day the scores are tallied and a winner decided.

There were certainly a few stand out performers on the day however, with Victorian representative, Yamaha rider Nicole Foster winning all of the ‘On Bike’ Categories. While for the second year running WA representative Dimity-Lee Duke won the Fitness Test easily, showing her competitors a clean set of heals. However it was Jacqui Jones who took overall honours with a win in the public speaking categorie and scoring solid points in all other sectors. “I can’t believe I actually won after having a crash in the race,” said winner Jacqui Jones. “I thought I’d blown it but I just kept focused the whole day and it payed off. I’m so happy to have won and can’t wait to get my new Honda.

Honda Motorcycles Brand Manager Phil Reynolds made the drive to Bacchus Marsh to view the event first hand. “The Honda Girls on the Gas Competition was run very well. I was extremely impressed with the showcase of talented women riders that we saw today and Honda are proud to be involved with the competition,” said Phil Reynolds.
